A Native American family went though some very tough times. They had lost a lot and could not see how they could change their situation.
The Native American grandfather was talking to his grandson about how he felt. He said, "I feel as if I have two wolves fighting in my heart. One wolf is the vengeful, angry, violent one. The other wolf is the loving, compassionate one." The grandson asked him, "Which wolf will win the fight in your heart?"
The grandfather answered: "The one I feed."
1. Have you had something hard happen to you in your life?
2. Have you ever felt that you couldn’t change what has happened.
3. Have you felt vengeful or violent about what has happened to you?
4. Have you noticed how you feed those vengeful thoughts?
5. Has being vengeful helped the situation?
6. Does the vengeful thoughts help you heal?
7. When you have compassionate thoughts who are they for?
8. Is there any compassion for you?
9. When you feel vengeful is there room for compassion at the same time?
10. Which one is more likely to help you heal?
We all have thoughts of vengeance and these thoughts can be helpful in the short term if they are part of the process and letting go. When we get stuck in this thinking we must “feed” these thoughts and this is when we make a choice between a violent heart and a compassionate one. When we choose to hold onto these wrongs.
